وقصة وضع النحو العربي تظهر بجلاء السبب الذي دفع العرب إلى وضع سياج للغتهم، ومن هنا ظهرت بعض الكلمات التي لها مدلول لغوي يختلف عن مدلولها داخل العلم المعين.
يقدم المؤلف في هذا الكتاب للقارئ وللمشتغلين بتعليم اللغة العربية طائفة من المصطلحات المستعملة والدائرة على السنّة الذين يعملون في هذا المجال، تحديداً للمصطلح أولاً، ثم المجال التربوي لتطبيقه.
وقد حدد المؤلف قصده من هذا التأليف إذ ذكر لأنه لاحظ من خلال تجربته في تدريس اللغة العربية لطلاب لهم لغات أم غير العربية - عدداً من القائمين على أمر تدريس اللغة العربية لا يأخذون في حسبانهم المضامين الكامنة وراء لفظ المصطلح.
والمعروف اليوم أن تحديد المصطلح الهدف منه الإستعانة بهذا التحديد الفهم العميق للمفاهيم العلمي، والتربوية والثقافية التي يعبر عنها المصطلح، حتى يستطيع المعلم أن يحدد الطريقة المثلى التي يتعامل بها مع ما يدل عليه المصطلح، وبالتالي يضيف التطبيق التربوي الصحيح عليه، مما يؤثر على المردود اللغوي لدى الدارس، ويعين المؤلف في هذا المجال عوناً كبيراً.
