في كتابه هذا يجمع الدكتور منصور إبراهيم الحازمي مجموعة من القصائد والمقطوعات الشعرية القصيرة للأستاذ الكبير العلامة حمد الجاسر في شبابه، وهو الشعر الذي كان ينشره الجاسر في جريدتي (أم القرى)، وهي كما يشير المؤلف الحازمي فترة قصيرة لا تتجاوز السنوات السبع، كان في أثنائها شاباً ما بين الثالثة والعشرين والتاسعة والعشرين من عمره.
أما عن شعره في جريدة (أم القرى) والتي يعرضها هذا الكتاب فهي لا تتجاوز ثلاث قصائد، إحداها في استقبال سموّ ولي العهد (الملك سعود رحمه اليه)، والأخريان في مدح سموّ النائب العام (الملك فيصل رحمه الله) ... أما (صوت الحجاز) فقد كان لها شرف نشر أول قصيدة للشاعر وهو لا يزال تلميذاً بالمعهد الإسلامي السعودي سنة 1351ه – 1932، وكانت بعنوان "هناك مرام النفس من كل مطلب" فضلاً عن قصيدة "إلى الشباب العربي الناهض" وهي من أجود ما قاله الجاسر في "الوطنيات"، وغيرها من قصائد يضمها هذا الكتاب تقترب من الثمانية عشرة قصيدة ومقطوعة شعرية قصيرة نذكر منها: "شمس الرعية عدله ونواله" ، "خدمة الوطن" ، " رجال الشرق" ، "إلى متى" ، "بين الشرق والغرب" ، "توخيت ما يعلى لأمة يعرب" ... الخ أراد الدكتور الحازمي من عرضها وقراءتها في هذا العمل الكشف عن الجانب الإنساني الساخر في شخصية أستاذنا الجاسر، بعد ما عرفه الجميع في جدِّه العلمي صارماً متجهماً لا يقبل المزاح .. إنها نبضات ذلك الفتى المغترب – يقول الدكتور الحازمي – التلميذ في المعهد العلمي السعودي بمنكة المكرمة. والذي لم ينسَ أبداً أنه "من أهل البرود" ، وأنه "بدوي نجد" ، وأنه من سكان "الشِّعب" بمكة العاصمة المقدسة ... .
