إن دراسة المعنى، سواء كان ذلك المعنى لغوياً أم أدبياً أم دينياً أن اجتماعياً أم فلسفياً، فهي من التشعب والتعدد بحيث لا يتصور المرء توقفها عند حد، وهي في تشعبها وتعددها الذي يمتد إلى النصوص البشرية الأولى تنتظم حول تفسيرات متنوعة للحقيقة الواحدة ولكل ما يبنى حول ماهية تلك الحقيقة من رؤى وتصورات، تلقائية حيناً وتعقلية حيناً آخر، حدسية مرة وتجريبية خالصة مرة أخرى. أسطورية ودينية وشعرية وعلمية.
أما الشق الثاني من عنوان هذه الدراسة، وهو: (بين التفسير والتأويل) فيشكل بالنسبة إلى الشق الأول طريقة في النظر ومنهجاً في الرؤية. الثنائية: (التفسير) و(التأويل) تعني مما تعني، أن النص يدعو إلى رؤيتين مختلفتين للمعنى بل تعني أن ثمة ظهورين للمعنى نفسه، الظهور الأول ظهور للتفسير بوصفه كشف المعنى عن نفسه أولاً وابتداءً. أما الظهور الثاني فهو ظهور للتاويل بوصفه كشف المعنى عن نفسه من حيث هو ما وراء ذلك الظهور الأول.
أما العنوان الجانبي، (دراسة تحليلية معرفية في النص القرآني)، هو تقديم إجابة عن سؤال المعنى الذي يشكله النص القرآني، إجابة تتصف بالنأي عن التحليلات اللغوية الجزئية، النأي الذي يضمن لها جدتها واختلافها في توصيف تلك التحليلات وتفسيرها بغية استظهار أصولها وموجهاتها.
