يدرس الأستاذ الدكتور "إبراهيم طه"، في هذا الكتاب، مفهوم الإيجاز على ثلاثة مستويات: التاريخ، والتنظير، والتطبيق، والإيجاز عنده يتأسس على مدى المسافة الفاصلة بين اللفظ من جهة أولى، وبين المعنى والدلالة من جهة أخرى، فليس القِصَر بالمطلق هو المعيار الإيجاز، وإنما هو القِصر بالمقياس إلى المعنى والدلالة.
فإذا تعددت المعاني وتوالدت منها الدلالات وانحسر اللفظ بالقياس إليها، وإن طال، تحقّق الإيجاز، وتحديد المسافة الفاصلة بين اللفظ والمعنى يفرز ثلاث دوائر كبرى للمعاني، المباشرة والمجاورة والمغايرة، بالإستناد إلى قرب هذه المعاني من النصّ أو بعدها عنه.
فإذا كان المعنى معياريّاً قاموسيّاً لاصقاً بالألفاظ والتراكيب كان معنىً مباشراً، أمّا إذا كان غير ذلك، فالحكم عليه يتمّ بمقتضى قربه من الألفاظ أو بعده عنها.
ويأتي الإيجاز تبعاً لتلك المسافة بينهما على ستّة أنواع: القِصَر، والتضمين، والحشد، والإجمال، والتناصّ، وأسباب النزول، وتلك الأنواع الستّة كلها تحتاج إلى أربع مصاحبات: (1) شكل من أشكال الحذف، (2) شيء من المجاز والغموض، (3) حدود السياق / المقام، (4) وقارئ قادر.
إن الإيجاز بنوعه وشكله ومداه وموضعه موصول بالضرورة بقدر ما تظهر هذه المعايير، النوع والشكل والمدى والموضع، في مثلما أنّ الغموض شرط تحقيقه، ثم يأتي السياق/ المقام ليحقق جزءاً غير عضويّ من حالة النصّ، لأنه يدخل في دائرة الإحالة النصيّة وبالتالي في عمليّة التأويل.
وهكذا بالتالي، لا بدّ أن يكون القارئ من ذوي الأفهام الثاقبة قادراً على الإحاطة بكلّ مستلزمات التأويل التي تقدّمت حتّى يشبع النصّ بالدلالات المعقولة.
إن الإيجاز، إذن، أمر نسبيّ قياسي في جوهره، وليس مطلقاً أو ثابتاً، يقوم على بعدين: كمّيّ وكيفيّ، بالمعاني النصيّة يتحقق البعد الكمي، وبالدلالات التي يقترحها القارئ يتحقّق البعد الكيفي في الإيجاز، وعلى أساس هذا الفهم عاين البحث مسألة الإيجاز وتجلّياته في القرآن الكريم بمقطع طوليّ وعرضيّ على حدّ سواء.
