على الرغم من أن الدراسات التي دارت حول نص الجرجاني كثيرة ومتنوعة، إلا أن ليس هناك أي دراسة عالجت الإشكالية الناجمة عن تأويل نص الجرجاني استناداً إلى المفاهيم الغربية، لذا آثر الباحث أن يكون ذلك موضوعاً لدراسته في هذا الكتاب. وهذه الدراسة تتوسل بمنظور منهجي يتجاوز الوقوف عند تأويلات الباحثين إلى تحديد الشروط النظرية التي تتحكم في السياقات الداخلية لنص لجرجاني وسياقه الخارجي أو التاريخي. ويقضي ذلك المنظور في مستوى التحليل إلى تعيين النيات التي تشكل مفاهيم نص الجرجاني من جهة، وبنيات المفاهيم الغربية من جهة أخرى، حينئذ يمكن الكشف عن التغايرات والاختلافات الكامنة بين تلك البنيات. ومن هنا فإن تحديد الشروط النظرية وبنيات المفاهيم يؤدي إلى الاقتراب من التعارضات النظرية التي تتضمنها تأويلات الباحثين العرب لنص الجرجاني. يخضع اختيار الباحث للدراسات التي أولت نص الجرجاني لمعايير نظرية نسبية تسمح بإبراز الدراسات المتميزة في تأويلاتها من غيرها.
