يطمح هذا الكتاب إلى أن يكون عوناً رفيقاً للأم، لا بصفتها مجرد أم تحتاج إلى دليل، أحياناً، لكي تتعامل مع طفلها التعامل الأمثل، بل بصفتها أماً عربية تنتمي إلى مجتمع ذي خصوصية تجعله مختلفاً أحياناً عن نموذج المجتمعات الغربية، وتجهل الأسرة وأعضاءها فيه مختلفين إلى حدّ ما، اختلافاً ينبغي أن ننتبه إليه ونحن (ننتج) أطفالنا، وننتج، من خلالهم، مجتمعاً أكثر تطوراً وأهلية للحياة والتقدم.
ومع أن المؤلف، في مقدمة الكتاب، يشير إلى أن كتابه هذا ليس بديلاً عن الطبيب، الذي يستطيع وحده أن يدرك الحيثيات ويحدد الطريقة الأفضل للتعامل مع الطفل سواء أكان مريضاً أم معافى، إلا أننا نستطيع التأكيد على أن الكتاب أيضاً لا بديل عنه، لأنه يضيء على الكثير من الشؤون والقضايا التي تحتاج إليها الأم طيلة الوقت، لا تتوفر فوراً على طبيب يرشدها في اللحظة التي تحتاجه فيها.
ولقد ظهر الكثير من الكتب العربية والأجنبية في هذا المجال، وقمنا نحن أنفسنا في المؤسسة العربية بنشر بعض من تلك الكتب (كتاب د. سبوك مثلاً) لكنّ هذا الكتاب يمتاز أولاً بأنه تأليف أحد أهم أطباء الأطفال في الأردن وأكثرهم خبرة لا في المجال العملي فقط، بل في المجال النظري أيضاً، ويمتاز من جهة أخرى، بأنه نتاج معاينة طويلة لحيثيات النشأة العربية وشكل العلاقة التي تنشأ بين الطفل، منذ ولادته، وبين الأم والأسرة والمجتمع العربي.
إن طموحنا حقاً هو أن يصبح هذا الكتاب مرشداً فعلياً للأم، وأن يغنيها عن الكتاب الأجنبي الذي لا يستطيع أحياناً أن يسعف الأم العربية في الإجابة عن بعض الأسئلة وهو عدا عن كل ذلك يتوفر على قدر كبير من المعرفة الصحية التي تحتاجها الأم وطفلها، بحيث تسهل عليها إنشاء طفل صالح لحمل المستقبل لنفسه ولمجتمعه ولأمته.
