عمل فى قسم الإعلام بالشعبة القومية لليونسكو 1975- 1977 ثم رئيس قسم المكتبة بالمعهد الفنى التجارى بالإسكندرية 1977 – 1984 ثم شركة مصر للتجارة الخارجية بالإسكندرية 1984-1985 وسكرتير تحرير روايات الهلال، دار الهلال 1985
يتولى حاليا رئاسة تحرير كتب الأطفال بدار الهلال

لا تزال المسافة واسعة بيننا وبين المعرفة. ووسط الاحتفاليات الضخمة بالسينما وأفلامها فإن المكتبة العربية شديدة الفقر فيما يسمى بالموسوعات. فلا أعتقد أن لدينا موسوعة حقيقية فى عالم السينما. ولعل المحاولات الوحيدة فى ذلك, هى التى قدمتها فى أكثر من تجربة منذ عام 1993 وحتى الآن. فى البداية قدمت تجارب متواضعة فى موسوعات عن الأفلام العربية, والممثلين, ظلت تطور نفسها إلى الشكل الأقرب للمثالية فى الطبعات الأخيرة.
وقد تمنيت دوما أن أقدم موسوعة عن المخرجين, وتمثل الحلم فى أن أجمع كافة البيانات عن المخرجين فى العالم العربى, والذين عملوا من أجل السينما العربية, وأن أستعين فى هذا الكتاب بعضا من المقالات الخاصة بمخرجين, دون أن ألتفت إلى التمييز بين مخرج وآخر وهى مقالات سبق نشرها باسمى ككاتب, وقد رجعت فى هذه الموسوعة إلى دليل السينمائيين فى مصر, وإلى أرشيفى الخاص, وما أغزر الأوراق فيه, واكتشفت أن شبكة المعلومات فقيرة للغاية فيما يخص المخرج المصري, والسورى, وأنها غنية إلى حد ملحوظ فيما يخص المخرج المغربى, خاصة باللغة الفرنسية, فاستفدت منها كثيرا.
