ولقب القائد ليس مجرد درجة وظيفية ولكنه درجة شرفية أيضاً يمنحها لك من تقودهم، والمديرون أشخاص يتولون قيادة الآخرين، ويحتاجون إلى المهارة والدافع للقيام بهذه المهمة. وعليك دائماً أن تسعى إلى الابتعاد عن القيام بدور المسئول والمدير من خلال ما تستطيع الحصول عليه من معارف ومعلومات ومهارات تقربك من الدور الحقيقي للقائد. وفي كل الأحوال يجب أن ندرك أن الإدارة العليا أو صانع القرار لا يعين قادة. لكن القادة هم الذين يعينون أنفسهم. وهؤلاء الناس الذين يسعدون ويحتفلون بتنصيبك قائداً لهم، هم الذين يمنحوك شرف قيادتهم. أن الكثيرين يديرون العمل دون أن يتخطوا حواجز القيادة. والذين يمنحوك لقب القائد ينتظرون منك أن تكون مثالاً للمسئولية؛ فالقيادة تحدي يتعين عليك أن تقبله، ولن تستطيع أن تصل إلى كرسي القيادة أو تحتفظ به دون قبول هذا التحدي.
