إن التوحيد من أجله بُعِثَت الرسل، ومن أجل إقامته شرع الجهاد، وهو من أهم ما يتكلم فيه الدعاة، ومن أفضل ما يؤلف فيه المؤلفون، ولقد كان الشيخ محمد بن عبد الوهاب من عظماء الدعاة اليه فقد جاءت دعوته في الوقت المناسب وفي الحال المناسب وفي البلد المناسب.
فقبل هذه الدعوة من بين من قبلها رجال من تلك البلاد تعلقت قلوبهم بها، ثم هاجروا من أجلها الى الدرعية فدرسوا على الشيخ محمد بن عبد الوهاب وتلامذته، ثم عادوا الى بلادهم وقد جندوا أنفسهم لتلك الدعوة وتعليمها والجهاد من أجلها وتأليف الكتب فيها، ولقد كان "المؤلف" عبد الهادي بن محمد بن عبد الهادي أحد أولئك العلماء الذين بذلوا جهودهم في ذلك. ولقد كان لكتاب التوحيد الذي ألفه الشيخ محمد ابن عبد الوهاب أعظم الأثر على من قبل دعوته، فقد أودع فيه أساس دعوته فأصبح منهجاً ودليلاً يسترشد به الدعاة الى التوحيد.
ومن أجل هذا فقد اعتنى بشرحه وفهمه العلماء الذين قبلوا وأقبلوا على هذه الدعوة، فشرحوه وبينوه للناس بما يسهل عليهم فهمه.
ولقد كان هذا الشرح الذي بين أيدينا من هذه الشروح التي أسهمت في نشر دعوة التوحيد في عسير وتهامة في الوقت الذي كانت فيه الكتب نادرة قليلة. وتأتي أهميته من حيث أنه قد اعتمد الى حد كبير على كتب الشافعية التي كانت متداولة بين علماء تلك البلدان.
فلماذ لهذا الكتاب من تلك الأهمية، ولما فيه من عرض لشرح كتاب التوحيد بأسلوب جديد بجوار الشرحين المعروفين "تيسير العزيز الحميد" و"فتح المجيد".
اعتني بتحقيقه ودراسته الأستاذ أبي أسامة حسن العواجي حيث عمل على تقسيم الكتاب الى قسمين: القسم الأول: الدراسة وقد جعله في بابين؛ الباب الأول: التعريف بالمؤلف وعصره، والثاني: التعريف بالكتاب ونسخه. أما القسم الثاني فتضمن النص المحقق وقد قام فيه بتخريج أحاديثه وآثاره ونصوصه، ونبَّه الى ما يحتاج الى تنبيه وصحح الأخطاء وقارن بين النسخ.
