يتناول هذا الكتاب مجموعة من الدراسات الأنثروبولوجية التي تمت في منطقة البطنان بشرق ليبيا. الدراسة الأولى عن عادات الطعام "دراسة في الأنثروبولوجية الغذائية" وتضمنت المداخل النظرية لدراسة عادات الطعام, عادات الطعام في مجتمع الدراسة. الدراسة الثانية عن أثر النسق الأيكولوجي المتغير على النشاط الاقتصادي التقليدي, وتضمنت البيئة والنسق الأيكولوجي, النشاط الاقتصادي التقليدي ويشمل الزراعة, مراحل الزراعة, تناول الرعي والثروة الحيوانية بالمنطقة وعلاقته بالدورة الأيكولوجية ونظرة تقويمية لعملية الرعي.
الدراسة الثالثة عن بعض مظاهر التغير في عادات دورة الحياة هي: (الميلاد والزواج والموت), دراسة هذه العادات في الماضي والحاضر, عرضت الدراسات لمظاهر التراث الشعبي الليبي في صورته التقليدية والمتغيرة, تناول عرضًا للمنهج المتبع في الدراسات الأنثروبولوجية عمومًا. والكتاب يمثل في مجمله إضافة هامة إلى المكتبة العربية تفيد الدارسين وصناع القرار.
