يتعرض هذا الكتاب المكون من سبعة فصول إلى مجموعة أساسية من النظريات الاجتماعية التي تمثل التيارات المعرفية الرئيسة، والمقاربات المنهجية الكبرى التي يعتمدها الباحثون في حقل العلوم الاجتماعية عموما، وعلم الاجتماع خصوصا. وبهذا الصدد، يشكل الفصل الأول مقدمة وافية للكتاب، أما الفصل الثاني فيتناول النظرية الوضعية، في ما يعالج الفصل الثالث النظرية الجدلية، والفصل الرابع مقاربات الفهم، بينما يستعرض الفصل الخامس النظرية البنائية الوظيفية، في حين يتناول الفصل السادس النظرية البنيوية، ويختم الفصل السابع هذا العرض العلمي بتسليط الضوء على نظرية الممارسة الاجتماعية Praxéologie.
