إن الحديث عن سيناء كجزء عزيز من الأرض المصرية على امتداد التاريخ المصري منذ عصور ما قبل التاريخ مروراً بالعصور الفرعونية واليونانية والمسيحية والإسلامية وإنتهاء بتاريخ مصر الحديث والمعاصر، إن الحديث في علاقات مصر الخارجية بالدول المحيطة بها سياسياً وعسكرياً، يتطلب أن نلقي الضوء على الإطار العام للتاريخ المصري القديم الذي كانت سيناء أحد محاوره الرئيسية في بعض الفترات، ولأن تاريخ سيناء عبر العصور طويل وعميق فسوف يقتصر الحديث في هذه الصفحات على سيناء في العصور القديمة (الفرعونية واليونانية الرومانية) ملقيا الضوء على تاريخها وعلى الشواهد الآثرية التي خلفها لنا الإنسان المصري علىأرضها مع الإشارة إلى موقعين أثريين هامين لا يدخلان في الإطار الزمني الذي حددته لهذا العمل وهما "دير سانت كاترين" و "قلعة صلاح الدين" في طابا لما لهما من أهمية دينية ومعمارية وسياحية.
