هذا كتاب في "علم المعاني" تمت صياغته وفق دورانها في النفس، بأمثلة قريبة من الواقع، تسهم في تقوية العلاقة بين العلم المدروس والواقع الملموس.
يُعرّف علم المعاني بأنه "علم يعرف به أحوال اللفظ العربي التي يطابق بها مقتضى الحال. أي أنه علم يكشف لنا عن دقائق الأساليب العربية. أما المقصود بـ "أحوال اللفظ العربي": هي الأمور العارضة التي تختلف باختلاف المقام الذي ورد فيه الكلام؛ كالإيجاز للخاصة والإطناب في مجال الشرح والتفصيل والتأكيد في مقام الإنكار وتعريته عن التأكيد ... وما إلى ذلك من أحوال تعتري المخاطب ...".
قسّم الكتاب إلى خمسة فصول يليها جانب تطبيقي جاءت تحت العناوين الآـية:
الفصل الأول: (بين الفصاحة والبلاغة وعلم المعاني). ويضم "الفصاحة والبلاغة" وفيها، أولاً: فصاحة الكلمة، ثانياً: فصاحة الكلام، ثالثاً: فصاحة المتكلم. ثم "البلاغة" ويضم: أولاً: لماذا ندرس البلاغة؟ ثانياً: علم المعاني، ثالثاً: الخبر والإنشاء، رابعاً أحوال الإسناد الخبري، خامساً أغراض الخير، سادساً: الحقيقة والمجاز العلمي ... الخ. يلي ذلك "أساليب خروج الكلام على غير مقتضى الظاهر" وتضم: أولا: وضع المضمر موضع المظهر، ثانياً: وضع المظهر موضع الضمير، ثالثا: الإلتفات، رابعا: أسلوب الحكيم ... الخ.
الفصل الثاني: (الإنشاء) ويضم: المبحث الأول: الأمر، المبحث الثاني: النهي، المبحث الثالث: الإستفهام.
الفصل الثالث: (أسلوب القصر) ويضم: تعريف القصر وأركانه، 2- طرق القصر والفرق بينها ... الخ.
الفصل الرابع: (الفصل والوصل) ويضم: 1- مواضع الوصل، 2- مواطن الفصل.
الفصل الخامس: (الإيجاز والإطناب والمساواة) ويضم أولاً: الإيجاز، ثانياً: الإطناب، ثالثاً المساواة.
وأخيراً: (الجانب التطبيقي) ويشتمل على: المعاني البلاغية في سورة الحج.
