ليافا وجه آخر في سفر الشعراء، تطل فيها وهر ترفل زهواً قبالة الصخور السوداء المشروخة أمام الشاطئ بحلة من الليمون والبرتقال، وترخي أتاشيط ضفائرها، وترهف أذنيها، وتمد عنقها الأتلع وهي تصغي لحورية البحر التي تنثر شذرات من الأويقات السعيدة في دفتر الماضي المعسول وزمان الوصل. ويافا الحاضر تطل من وراء الأكواخ والأزقة وحطام البيوت وحطام البيوت والركام بوجه سيزيف المعاصرة.
هذه الجملة القديمة بين المدائن، ذات الجذور الكنعانية، الغافية على شاطئ البحر المتوسط تذرذر عطر تاريخها وحصباء شاطئها، وتنثر أنجمها الحزينة وحكاياتها الكئيبة فوق بحرها الملح المزبدـ على مرأى من "برج الساعة" الشاهد على عمق هذه المدينة في التاريخ والزمن، وهذه الباقة من قصائد الكتاب المضخمة بالحب والحنين، والمندوفة بالذكريات وسفن الحزن إلى يافا، ما هي إى عربون محبة سرمدية وعشق مجوسي لهذه المدينة الساحرة.
يافا سحابة العمر التي كحلت عيني ببحرها ومائها وأصدافها أحد عشر عاماً أثناء تدريسي اللغة والأدب العربي في مدرستها "تيراسانطا الثانوية" عشقتها حتى النخاع، وبعثت رائحة بحرها المميزة في نفسي رهبة خاصة ونشوة ونوستالجيا ملحاحة، لاستقراء تاريخها الحضاري وما أوحت ربة الشعر فيها، فكانت هذه القصائد-شجرات البرتقال، ثمرة قراءة لديوان الشعر العربي.
