والحق أن بعض هذه التصنيفات – إن لم يكن كلها – تصنيفات صحيحة. فالرواية باعتبارها سرداً تحتمل في أكثر الأحيان جلّ هذه التصنيفات. وقد شبّه بعضهم الرّواية بكرة حمراء تحت الضوء، إذا نظرت إليها من إحدى الجهات بدا لك السطح المقابل أكثر احمراراً، وإذا نظرت إليها من جهة أخرى بدا لك السطح المقابل هو الأكثر حمرة. وهكذا .. الرّواية ، إذا نظرت إليها من الزاوية العاطفية، رأيت فيها هذا الجانب أوضح من غيره. وإذا نظرت للرّواية العاطفية من زاوية الاهتمام بالموضوع الاجتماعي، وجدتها أوضح. فقلت: هي رواية اجتماعية بلا ريب. ولكنها قد تكون في الوقت نفسه عاطفية، واجتماعية وتجريبية ، وربما نسوية إلخ.
ولأن موضوع التصنيف الذي يكثر تداوله في ميدان الدراسات السردية موضوع صعب غير يسير، ومعقد وغير بسيط، فقد تصدت الباحثة الدراسة الدكتورة ساندي سالم أبو سيف لهذا الموضوع، بهدف النظر فيما كتبه الدارسون، والنقاد العرب في هذا الشأن بدءاً بالمحاولات الرائدة في مستهل القرن الماضي، وانتهاءً بأحدث المحاولات.
