الدكتور صائل رشدي شديد، متخصص في اللسانيات- الدلالةوالتراكيب - له جهود كبيرة في الدراسات اللسانية التطبيقية، لا سيما في علمي الدلالة والتراكيب، والتطبيقات العملية لهما، شارك في كثير من المؤتمرات العالمية،وساهم في وضع نظريات جديدة في تدريس اللغة العربية للناطقين بغيرها.
وله جهود مميزة في تأليف مناهج اللغة العربية.
وهو متخصص كذلك في علوم القرآن وتفسيره، ودرس أصول الفقه على يد الشيخ الدكتور محمد الأشقر - رحمه الله - عمل في عدة دول: الأردن و الكويت والسعودية وعُمان والإمارات ويعمل حاليا في جامعة قطر.

لقد اجتهد المؤلف في هذا البحث ليضع لبنة صغيرة في الدرس اللغوي، مسترشداً بما حققه علماؤنا الاوائل، ومستلهماً بآراء علمائنا المحدثين والمعاصرين. وقد عمد الى الابتعاد عن الحشو، والزيادة، ولجأ الى الاختصار غير المخل، محاولا الاستشهاد بأمثلة تدلل على ما أذهب اليه من رأي. وقد يأخذ أحدهم على علمائنا الاوائل أنهم اهتموا بالمبنى أكثر من المعنى، ولعل ذلك من مقتضيات تأسيس علم العربية. ولكن صيرورة البحث اللغوي فيما بعد تعتني بانظارهم ذات الطبيعة الدلالية. ويتغيا هذا البحث استقراء وسائل تحقيق الدلالة في العربية، حين اتخذ فيه المؤلف منهجاً يقوم على الائتلاف العضوي المتكامل بين عناصر النظام اللغوي جميعاً. فكل عنصر من تلك العناصر يحقق دلالة جزئية، ومجموع هذه الدلالات الجزئية يحقق الدلالة الكلية. وفي كل جانب جزئي من الدلالة يتكون المعنى فبعض معنى اسم الفاعل، مثلاً، نجده في دلالة الصرف (الجزئية)، أو في المعنى الصرفي، وبعض معناه نجده، في المفهوم المحوري للجذر، وبعضه في وظيفته النحوية في الجملة... الخ.
وهكذا ينضوي الدرس الصوتي والدرس الصرفي والدرس المعجمي والدرس التركيبي ودرس الحركة الإعرابية ودرس اللوازم كل أولئك ينضوي تحت مظلة الدلالة. وليس سديداً ما يذهب اليه بعضهم من عزل الدلالة عن هذه "الدروس". إذ يعدونها درساً قائماً بذاته مثله مثل الدروس الممثلة بالمعاني الجزئية في الشكل السابق كما فعل تمام حسان في كتابه: اللغة العربية معناها ومبناها.
