لعلّ شخصية ابن سينا من أكثر الشخصيات العلمية التي اشتهرت في الدولة الإسلامية. فهذا الحكيم الذي عاش في نهاية القرن الرابع عشر الهجري وبداية القرن الخامس جامعاً بين علم عملي هو الطب وعلم نظري هو الفلسفة وما يتفرع عنها من منطق ورياضيات وطبيعيات وإلهيات وممارسة عملية للسياسة، كانت له شهرة واسعة تجاوزت بلاد المسلمين إلى القرب اللاتيني حيث بقي كتابه الشهير في الطب (القانون) يدرس حتى القرن السابع عشر الميلادي في جامعات أوروبا، وإذا أصبح أمير الأطباء عند الغربيين، فقد كان عند الشرقيين رمزاً للحكمة.
وفي هذا الكتاب بحث الغاية منه الكشف عن فكر هذا العالم في مجال الفلسفة والبحث عن نظرياته التي كانت استكمالاً لما سبقها في سلسلة العلم التي لا تنقطع منذ بداية الفكر البشري. وسيتطرق البحث إلى عرض آرائه في الوجودين المادي والماورائي وآرائه في النفس الإنسانية وقواها ووجودها ومصيرها، بالإضافة إلى آرائه الصوفية التي كانت مرتكزاً لتيار صوفي واسع نشأ بعده والذي كان من أشهر دعاته الملاّ صدر الدين الشيرازي الذي هو أبو التصوف الإيراني.
