في هذه الرسالة سعى المؤلف إلى ذكر أخبار الأميرين القاسم ومحمد بن القاسم العياني. وهو عمل تاريخي يصف حقبة متأخرة نسبياً من تاريخ الدولة العلوية باليمن. وكان القاسم العياني قد دعا لنفسه لوقت قصير عام 383هـ ثم عاد للثورة عام 388هـ ففتح صعده واستولى على صنعاء وحكم متلقباً بالمنصور بالله.
وقد تولى بعده قيادة الحركة الحسينية أبناء الحسين ثم جعفر الذي وصل إلى صنعاء حوالي نهاية العام413هـ، وتبدأ سيرة الأميرين بثورة الصليحيين لاسيما الإسماعيلية حيث تبدأ سيرتهما من حيث تنتهي سيرة الإمام المهدي لدين الله. الذي ضاعت سيرته, وأصل هذه الرسالة مخطوطة نادرة الحق بها المحققان ثلاثة نصوص أخرى من مصادر أخرى بعضها معاصر للفرقة الحسينية توضح ما غمض من تاريخها. كما استطاعا بالعودة إلى مختلف المصادر التاريخية والجغرافية والنسبية ضبط الغالبية العظمى من أسماء الأماكن وتحديدها وأكثر أسماء الأعلام.
