وتقدم الكاتب نموذجاً عن المرأة في المجتمع الشرقي حيث الذكر الصحراوي، العربي القح، يحكم بالظواهر وينظر إلى المرآة نظرة دونية، ولا تختلف صورة سلبية (للمثقفين) الذين يقضون حياتهم غارقين في همومهم اليومية، مشغولين بالعلاوات وارتفاع الأسعار، وغير ذلك من مشاكل الحياة الآنية.
في كل ما تكتبه ليلى أبو زيد يحضر المغرب. يحضر في الصور التي تكشف بيئته وتاريخه وحياة ناسه وحضارته، الجميل منها والسيئ. وفي كل ما تكتب تعبّر عن حبها لهذا البلد، وعن رغبتها في تطوره إلى أرقى درجات. توجّه النقد، كما تدافع عن روح المغرب وتقاليده الاجتماعية والدينية، فتلفت إلى التصرفات السيئة والمتخلفة، فتقارنها بما يتمسك به المغاربة من سمو أخلاق واحترام لتقاليد الإسلام.
