من هؤلاء الباحثين الذين حاولوا تحليل وتفسير الإدراك البصري منذ زمن طويل نجد علماء الجشطلت ثم علماء النفس المعرفي حديثًا، ويعتمد الإدراك البصري في تجهيز المعلومات البصرية المحيطة بنا بإدراك شكلها وحجمها ولونها وغير ذلك من الخصائص الموضوعية التي يمكن رؤيتها بالعين المجردة على انتباه الشخص إلى الشيء الذي يراه ويركز بصره عليه ليصل إلى التعرف البصري على الشيء وتسميته لفظيًا أو نقله أو رسمه خطيًا، وهذا لا يكون إلا في إطار الخبرات السابقة ويرى معظم العلماء المعرفيين أن الإدراك البصري يكون سليمًا إذا كان التخزين البصري للخصائص الفيزيائية للأشياء جيدًا من هنا يمكننا القول أن الإدراك البصري كمرحلة في تجهيز وتناول المعلومات والمعطيات البصرية لا يمكنه الاستغناء على المراحل المعرفية الأخرى كالانتباه والذاكرة والتفكير وغيرها، فإذا ما تم إدراك ومعالجة الأشياء المرئية بشكل سليم يكون عمل المراحل المعرفية الأخرى جيدًا ودقيقًا والعكس صحيح إذا كانت المراحل المعرفية الأخرى سليمة يتم إدراك الأشياء والمنبهات المرئية بشكل جيد وسليم. وسنحاول أن نتناول في هذا الكتاب موضوع الإدراك البصري في نظام تكوين وتناول المعلومات، نظرًا لأهمية هذه المرحلة في تجهيز ومعالجة المعلومات الواردة عبر حاسة الإبصار، ونظرًا في اعتقادنا لأهمية الموضوع ومن أجل الإحاطة بقدر الإمكان بمختلف جوانبه، يهدف هذا الكتاب إلى تزويد طالب علم النفس عمومًا أو المتخصص في علم النفس المعرفي بالمفاهيم والنظريات الأساسية التي لا يمكن الاستغناء عنها في هذا المجال المتخصص.
فهو يحتوي على الموضوعات التالية: الفصل الأول تناولت فيه المؤثرات الذاتية والموضوعية لعملية الإدراك البصري، الفصل الثاني ويتناول أهم النماذج والنظريات المعرفية المفسرة للإدراك البصري، الفصل الثالث يتناول إبراز العلاقة بين الإدراك البصري والانتباه وبعض مستويات تكوين وتناول المعلومات.
