إن حادثات الأيام لا تنتهي، ونوازله لا تنقضي، ولله في كل نازلة حكم والمفزع في معرفة ذلك أولاً وأخرا قديماً وحديثاً إنما هو كتاب الله وسنة رسوله صلى الله عليه وسلم مستعملاً في ذلك علم استنباط الأحكام، وهو علم أصول الفقه، أما القواعد الفقهية، فهي القواعد الكلية الأغلبية، التي يندرج تحتها أحكام كثيرة، وتخرج من جوفها الوقائع المستمرة، وهي صياغة مختصرة جامعة لمعان نصت عليها أكثر من آية أو حديث، حتى أصبحت تلك المعاني مألوفة، بل محكمة فيما يعن من أمور. فحفظ هذه القواعد، وإتقان استعمالها يغنيك كما يشير الناظم عن حمل كثير من أسفار الفروع.
وهذا المؤلف الذي بين أيدينا هو نظم لتلك القواعد، قام به السيد أبو بكر بن أبي القاسم الأهدال، ملخصاً فيه أشباه ونظائر السيوطي، وشرح قام به العلامة "عبد الله الجرمزي"، أما عمل المحقق فيتخلص بما يلي: أولاً: إفراد الكتاب "المذاهب السنية" بطبعة جديدة بعد أن كان ملحقاً بكتاب "أشباه ونظائر السيوطي". ثانياً: ميز النظم من الشرح بعد أن اختلطا اختلاطاً شديداً في النسخ المطبوعة، ثالثاً: اعتنى بتخريج ما ورد في الكتاب من أحاديث، رابعاً: ناقش بعض مسائل الكتاب إذا ما وجد أنها غامضة، أو إذا تبين له مجانبتها للصواب.
