جورج ويلهلم فريدريش هيغل (بالألمانية: Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel) (ولد 27 أغسطس 1770 — 14 نوفمبر 1831) فيلسوف ألماني ولد في شتوتغارت، فورتيمبيرغ، في المنطقة الجنوبية الغربيةِ من ألمانيا.
يعتبر هيغل أحد أهم الفلاسفة الألمان حيث يعتبر أهم مؤسسي حركة الفلسفة المثالية الألمانية في أوائل القرن التاسع عشر الميلادي.

لئن كان كتاب هيجل فلسفة الحق آخر كتاب أصدره في حياته، فإنه من أكثر كتبه إثارة للجدل والخلاف والمناقشات بل وللهجوم العنيف في كثير من الأحيان، فهو على حدّ تعبير بوزانكيت: كتاب ربما يكون قد أسيء فهمه أكثر بكثير مما أسيء فهم أي كتاب آخر من كتب الفلاسفة السياسيين العظام إذ استثنينا "جمهورية أفلاطون..." ولعد بدأ الهجوم يوجّه إلى هذا الكتاب منذ صدوره ولا يزال قائماً حتى يومنا هذا، من فريز (الذي خلفه هيجل أستاذاً للفلسفة في هايدلبرج) والذي وصف الكتاب بأنه "ترعرع لا في حديقة العلم، وإنما في قمامة الذل والخنوع.."، حتى كارل بوبر الذي وصفه بأنه كان يستهدف "خدمة سيده فردريك فلهلم ملك بروسيا..". ويشير بوازانكيت إلى عاملين تسببا أكثر من غيرهما في سوء الفهم الذي تعرّض له هذا الكتاب. أحدهما الظروف السياسية المضطربة التي سادت ألمانيا وقت ظهور الكتاب مما جعله عرضة لسوء التأمل، والعامل الثاني: "الصعوبة الحقيقية التي تلازم أي تحليل فلسفي للمجتمع". وبين طيات هذا المجلد الذي بين أيدينا ترجمة للجزءان الأول والثاني من كتاب هيجل هذا والذي أصدره عام 1821 تحت عنوان فردوج هو "علم السياسة والقانون الدولي بإيجاز، أو أصول فلسفة الحق".
