قراءة في الأدب العربي المعاصر من منظور نقدي لاستشفاف عوامل الإرهاب وأسبابه وتجلياته الكثيرة الموصولة في التراث العربي حيث يحضر القمع بشكل طاغ في نصوص ذلك التراث التي تنوء بما فيه من استبداد وظلم وطغيان. والمؤلف في هذا السياق يستعيد تأمل القمع في صورة الحديثة من زاوية العلاقة بين الزمن النوعي المولد للرواية العربية وأشكال القمع التي كانت دافعاً من دوافع انبثاقهما واندفاعهما، حيث يستكمل هنا ما بدأه في كتب سابقة فيلج إلى عالم الرواية والأعمال الإبداعية المقاومة للإرهاب في عمومه والإرهاب الديني في خصوصه إذ يعتبر الكتابة النقدية عن هذه الأعمال موقف مواز يمضي في الاتجاه نفسه في رفض نتائج القمع وأسباب الإرهاب.
يتناول المؤلف في قراءاته روايات لنجيب محفوظ والطاهر وطار، ويوسف إدريس وعبد الحكيم قاسم، وفتحي غانم وغيرهم من الأدباء.
وقد رأيت "أن من الأهمية بمكان التوقف عند الأعمال الإبداعية التي أخذت على عاتقها المواجهة الجسورة لإرهاب الجماعات التي تنتسب - زوراً وبهتاناً - إلى الدين. وقد توقفت في هذه الأعمال على الرواية بالدرجة الأولى، نتيجة إيماني أننا نعيش في زمنها، ولم أجاوزها إلى القصة القصيرة أو المسرحية أو السينما إلا حين اقتضت المعالجة استكمال ملامح المشهد الإبداعي المقاوم للإرهاب الديني، الكاشف عن احتمالاته الخطرة، وعن دوافعه وأسبابه وعلاقات سياقاته في الوقت نفسه". و"بقدر اختياري للأعمال التي توقفت عندها، تعبيراً عن تقديري النقدي لجسارتها، وكشفاً عن دورها الإبداعي والفكري، كانت المعالجة النقدية دالة على أن هذه الأعمال قاومت الإرهاب الديني، وواجهته، بوصفها أعمالاً إبداعية ابتداءً، ومن خلال تقنياتها الفنية المتميزة التي لم تتخلّ عنها لصالح أي خطاب أيديولوجي مباشر، فقد كانت المقاومة بالفن، وبواسطة خصائصه النوعية، بالدرجة الأولى، الهدف الأول لهذه الكتابات التي أرجو أن أكون قد نجحت في الكشف عن تميزها خصوصاً في قيمها الجمالية التي لا تنفصل عن قيمها الفكرية".
