لعل السمة الأبرز، في حركة الإبداع الروائي العربي، هي التحول، سواء في المضامين أو في الأشكال والتقنيات.. وحيث ينصب المبدع من المبدع من نفسه شاهداً ومؤرخاً لرصد الحركة الاجتماعية التاريخية بمجملها، وكذا الذوات المفردة، بتشابكها معها.
وربما كان الاتجاه الرئيسي للرواية العربية، حتى هزيمة حزيران 67م، يأخذ هذا المنحى.. غير أن الروائي المبدع لا يقيم طويلاً على ضفاف الواقع الوقع الموضوعي أو في مختبره الاجتماعي.. إذ سرعان ما يتحول إلى عالمه الداخلي كاشفاً أسراره، ومعلناً آثامه، وكأنه يجلس على كرسي اعتراف أمام راهب أو طبيب نفسي.. أو هو يحيل نصه الإبداعي إلى صرخة إدانة ضد المحيط الخارجي.
فكيف تحافظ الرواية، والحال كذلك، على شكلها الكلاسيكي الصارم، وكل شيء من حولها يتشظى وينهار وينهزم؟ فيكون أن تتحول الكتابة الروائية إلى شظايا.. ثم إلى اقتراحات مفتوحة على أجناس إبداعية متعددة فيما يعرف بعمليات التجنيس الأدبي..
والكتاب، إلى جانب ذلك، يتابع، غير الوثائق الروائية، التحولات التراجيدية للمشهد العربي بكل مكوناته التاريخية والثقافية والسياسية، وعلى امتداد مئة عام.
