يهدف هذا الكتاب إلى تزويد القارئ بمصادر أدب المرأة العربية المعاصرة ومراجعه، إلى جانب التعريف ببعض أعلامه، فقد أصبح الأدب النسائيّ رافداً هامّاً من روافد الأدب العربيّ الحديث منذ الربع الأخير من القرن التاسع عشر، وإن بدا حيياً متردّداً في أوّل الأمر إلاّ أنّه ما لبث أن اكتسب أسباب الجرأة واهتدى إلى صوته المتميّز، فوصل إلى درجة عالية من النضج في الستّينات والسبعينات من القرن العشرين سواء في الشعر أم النثر.
وعلى الرغم من الإنجازات الأدبيّة الهامّة التي حققتها المرأة العربية، فإن مؤرخي الأدب العربي قلّما اعترفوا بأهميّة هذا الأدب وخصوصيته فنيّاً وإجتماعياً، فقد بقي الأدب النسائي العربي، حتى الآن، في منطقة الظلّ لقلة الدراسات التي تناولته وقصور الببلوغرافيات التي نشرت عنه، فقد غلب عليها طابع الإقليمية فافتقرت إلى الشمول بتركيزها على أقطار عربية متفرّقة.
وفي هذا الكتاب بابان رئيسان، الباب الأوّل يضمّ أعلام الأدب النسائيّ رتّبت على حروف الهجاء، وقد قسمنا المادّة المتعلّقة بالكاتبة إلى ثلاثة أقسام، هي: 1-نبذة عن حياتها، 2-المؤلفات، 3-المراجع.
أما الباب الثاني، من هذا المؤلّف، فيشمل المراجع العامّة التي اعتدنا عليها في وضع هذا الكتاب، مرتّبة على حروف الهجاء، وقد ارتأينا - كما فعلنا في المراجع الخاصّة بكلّ كاتبة، عدم فصل الكتب عن المقالات، ثم أثبتنا المعلومات الأوليّة لكلّ مرجع، فإننا لم نشأ تكرار ذلك في المراجع الخاصّة حيث اكتفينا بذكر الإسم الأخير للكاتب متلوّاً بالعنوان المختزل للمرجع.
