نظراً للمنزلة التي يتمتع بها تفسير (الكشاف) من بين التفاسير، والمكانة العملية التي يتمتع بها صاحب هذا التفسير "الزمخشري" يقدم الدكتور ولدار غفور حمد أمين دراسة لغوية صرفة تتناول الجانب اللغوي أو ما يتعلق بفقه اللغة في هذا التفسير.
تأتي أهمية الكشاف وما ورد فيه من مادة لغوية من كون مؤلفه اعتمد فيه على السماع والقياس، أما السماع، فقد شمل استشهاده بالقرآن الكريم وقراءاته والحديث النبوي وكلام العرب المتمثل في أمثال العرب وأقوالهم. وأما القياس فقد أجازه الزمخشري واعتمد فيه على التعليل أكثر من غيره من أركان القياس، وقد تضمن (الكشاف) لـ (12) نوعاً من العلل اللغوية.
إلى ذلك، عرض الزمخشري للظواهر اللغوية المتصلة بالدلالة، كمعاني اللفاظ، وتطور الدلالة، والترادف، والأضداد، وقد حظيت معاني المفردات القرآنية باهتمام كبير لديه. وقد اثبت مؤلف هذه الدراسة ميزاتٍ لتفسيراته للمفردات القرآنية، وهي: بيان الاستعمال القرآني للفظة، وتعدّد وجوه التفسير في اللفظة الواحدة، وذكر المعنى المعجمي للفظة، وتعليل الإستعمال القرآني للفظة، والإشارة إلى تغير المعنى بتغيير حرف التعدّي.
وفي هذه الدراسة أيضاً أوضح المؤلف بموقف الزمخشري من ظاهرتي (الترادف) و (الأضداد) ، والظواهر اللغوية المتصلة بالجانب الصوتي، واهتمامه بالقلب اللغوي، وأورد طائفة من الألفاظ الثلاثية التي وقع فيها القلب، والرباعية المجرّدة، كقوله تعالى: "والليل إذا عسعس"، وكذلك اهتمامه بالمثنى اللغوي (...) وجوانب لغوية وفقهية أخرى ذات صلة.
