"صعب على الحرّ قهر الروح يا وطني... صعب نقوس أعناق الرجال على موائد الخوف والإذلال والوهن، صعب بريق يناشين الخلود على صدور من ورثوا الدنيا بلا ثمن، صعب وقوفك يا بغداد شامخةً كالشمس وحدك في شيخوخة الزمن، تجسدين رؤى ضاعت معالمها في الآخرين وتاهت ثم لم تبن وتبعثين نفوساً من مراقدها، وتهتكين صبايا عابدي الدمن، صعب ولكنها الأقدار تضعنا، حيناً ونضعها في السر والعلن. وقلت: لا... قلت يا بغداد: لا.. وسرى لهيب صوتك في الغابات والمدن، وجن شيطان عصر النفط وهو يرى اشتعاله في مرايا مجده النتن، وقلت: لا.. قلتها والريح مصغية تعيد ما كان في الماضي، ولم يكن لا للصليبي، في طغيان آلية تحت السماء، وفي إيمانه الوثني لا للذي خلنا في وهم سكرته، أوراق طحلبة في مائه الأسن، واختصّ،ا بوصايا الميتين ولم يبخل علينا بتاريخ من الضغن، فراح ينسجنا في حيثما غزلت، أيدي اليهود من الأحقاد والفتن".
هذا هو "محمد الفيتوري" الشاعر السوداني مجرداً من أية إضافات.. إنه كما عرفناه، منذ ما قبل خمسين عاماً.. منذ إطلالته في أغاني "إفريقيا"... تلك التي أثارت من مواقف مضادة، ومواقف متعاطفة، ومن آراء وأيضاً من اتهامات.. إنه هو هنا الطالع من أساطير إفريقيا، تلك القارة التي مازالت تحيط بها ظلمات الجهل وآفاق الاستغراب... هناك الفيتوري، فتح عينيه، وتنفست رئتاه، واستغرقت مسامعه الرخوة، في هدير تلك الأنهار المخيفة واللامحدودة، والمجهولة المصادر والمنابع والإيحاءات... هناك كتب آراءه وتحليلاته، وهناك نفس عن ذاته بالعديد من القصائد التي قد لا يدرك فحواها هو بنفسه رغم أنها تعيش فيه، وتنبع منه، وتشكل رؤياه في تصورات الكون من حوله.. يعني أن لا شيء في هذا الفيتوري الذي تراه، ونتشارك معه، ونشاركه أيامنا وأحلامنا وأوهامنا... بلى لا شيء إلا الحزن والشعر... بلى الحزن والشعر القاتل والمثير للأحزان والكآبة في الآخرين!
