تعني الدراسات الجيومورفولوجية بدراسة الصحاري وطبيعتها وتأثيرات الرياح عليها، ومظاهر التضاريس فيها، وكان لا بد أن تخطى التضاريس العربية بالدرس المستفيض للوقوف على خصائصها. والمؤلف يقدم في هذا الكتاب خلاصة دراسات ميدانية طويلة أجراها في الصحاري العربية وقد عرض في هذا الكتاب نتائج أبحاثه في أربعة عشر فصلاً. حيث يعرض خلالها لعامل التعرية الهوائية حيث تنقل عملية الاكتساح المواد الدقيقة، وتترك المواد الخشنة في شكل غطاء يتكون من صخور وحضى يتناثر هنا وهناك.
كما يعرض لعصور المطر في الصحراء الكبرى، الإفريقية ويتحدث عن العصر المطير في ليبيا، إذ أدت التغيرات المناخية والهبوط السريع لدرجات الحرارة إلى تجليد النطاقات الأرضية الشمالية ثم يقدم دراسة جيومورفولوجية مناخية لبرقة والبطنان (ليبيا) في أواخر الزمن الثالث وأوائل الزمن الرابع، كما يعرض كذلك لجيومورفولوجية الجبل الغربي منذ نشوءه حتى العصر الحديث. وللتطور الجيومورفولوجي للصحراء الليبية التي كانت أول قسم ظهر من ألراضي الليبية فوق سطح البحر.
كما يدرس التطور الجيومورفولوجي لإقليم فزان التي ظهرت معظم أراضيه فوق منسوب البحر في بداية الزمن الثاني كما يعرض المؤلف لنتائج دراسة حقلية جيومورفولوجية لمنخفض واحة مرادة بليبيا، قام بها المؤلف في العام 1971.
إضافة إلى دراسة لحوض وادي القطار بليبيا الذي يقع ضمن حدود محافظة بنغازي وأيضاً لسهل بنغازي الذي تبين الدراسات الجيولوجية أن أرضه تتركب كلية من صخور رسوبية وهي كلها من صخور الكربونات البحرية والنشأة التي تنتمي لعصر الميوسين.
كما يعرض من خلال دراساته للمدرجات البلايوستوسينية بوادي درنة، وهو أطول واد يقطع حافة الجبل الأخضر الساحلية قبل الوصول إلى البحر. ثم يعرض بعد ذلك لدراسة تكونيات (اللوس) التي تستخدم أساسً لتاريخ العصر الجليدي وتصنيفه ويعرض أخيراً لطرق البحث البتروجرافية للدراسة الجيومورفولوجية.
