هذا الكتاب يعتبر من أهم الكتب التراثية التي تحدثت عن الجزء الأخير من تاريخ الدولة السلجوقية 552 - 590هــ / 1157 - 1194م، لأن المؤلف نفسه وأخواله كانوا من أولى الحظوة عند السلطان طغرل أخر سلاطين السلاجقة، ومن أجل ذلك - كما يقول ناشر الكتاب - تيسر للمؤلف الوقوف على المعلومات من مصادرها الصحيحة في كل شأن يتعلق بأحداث الدولة، وقد توفر لنشر الكتاب في أصله الفارسي مجموعة كبيرة من كبار الأساتذة، أذكر منهم المستشرق البريطاني الشهير "إدوارد براون" الذي وفق في العثور على المخطوطة الأصلية لهذا الكتاب، والعلامة الإيراني "محمد إقبال" الذي تولى تصحيحه ونشره بمساعدة العلامة الكبير "محمد بن عبد الوهاب القزويني" وقد طبع الكتاب الفارسي لأول مرة في كمبريدج عام 1921م.
أما عن الترجمة العربية فقد توفر لها كذلك ثلاثة من كبار علماء الفارسية في مصر، وهم الأستاذ الدكتور "إبراهيم أمين الشواربي" مؤسس قسم اللغات الشرقية بآداب عين شمس، وتلميذاه الأستاذ الدكتور "عبد النعيم محمد حسنين" ، والأستاذ الدكتور "فؤاد عبد المعطي الصياد" وقد تولى كل منهم ترجمة ثلث الكتاب، وبعد ذلك قام الأستاذ الدكتور "إبراهيم أمين الشواربي" بما عهد عنه من دقة متناهية بمراجعة الترجمة ونشر مقدمات الكتاب.
وإذا كان كتاب راحة الصدور يصنف على أنه كتاب تاريخ، إلا أن المؤلف بالإضافة إلى مقدرته في التأريخ كان أدبياً وناقداً وشاعراً، فقد زخر الكتاب بالعديد من الشواهد الشعرية الفارسية وبعضها بالعربية من نظم المؤلف أو من نظم كبار شعراء الفارسية قبل عصر المؤلف وفي عصره، مما يجعل الكتاب مرجعاً مهماً لدراسة الأدب الفارسي.
