دراسة جادة تناولت قبيلة طيئ التي اشتهر منها الجواد حاتم الطائي، وهي القبيلة اليمنية الوحيدة التي حرص أهل العلم من القدماء على الأخذ عنها، وتسجيل لغتها، وذلك لفصاحتها، وتميزها مما سواها في كثير من الخصائص، فلغة طيئ (لا تأخذ من لغة، ويؤخذ من لغاتها) على حد تعبير أبي عبيد القاسم بن سلام (ت 224 هـ).
وقد بذلت في الدراسة جهود طيبة؛ في جمع المادة ودراستها، وتمحيصها، وفي تتبع صداها في القراءات القرآنية،والشعر، والنثر، ولهجات العامة، واللغات السامية، ما سمح به الوسع. وقد أفاد الدراس، وهو متخصص في فقه اللغة، وله إسهامات في هذا المجال، من معطيات الدرس اللغوي المعاصر في تفسير الظواهر، ورصد تطورها، ومقارنتها بما يقابلها في العربية المشتركة، ولغات القبائل.
ولما كانت لغة طيئ جزءاً من العربية، فأن هذه الدراسة تسهم في معرفة العربية؛ في اتساعها وتشعبها، ونحوها، وصرفها، ودلالات مفرداتها، وفي ثباتها، وتطورها.
