هذه إشكاليات في راهن الفن التشكيلي العربي المعاصر، منذ التأسيس حتى الحداثة، قام الباحث بإثارتها عبر تساؤلات ليست بريئة، لكنه لا يملك أي جواب جاهز، ورغم خبثه المشروع، فالأجوبة منزاحة في فضاء الأسئلة، والأسئلة شواخص متسولة على التخوم التي تفضي ولا تفضي للفضاء. جاء البحث ضمن بابين. في الباب الأول: ستة فصول توثيقية لكنها لا تأخذ طابع البحث المستفيض، وإنما هي تهيئة للدخول في حالة التأسيس للفن التشكيلي-العربي المعاصر، والباب الثاني مكون من خمسة فصول، تدخل في راهن التشكيل العربي المعاصر، في محاولة للوقوف على الظواهر المفصلية في المشهد، مع ترك مساحة للسؤال والتساؤل لإيمان الباحث بأنه لا يملك الحقيقة أو يدعيها، وهي أسئلة تكتفي بالوقوف على التخوم.
محمد أبو زريق، في كدّه البحثي وتقصياته لجيولوجيا النصوص والرؤى الفكرية، يجمع بين النص البصري عند التأسيس، صعوداً.. والمجاور الفكري في العولمة والحداثة وما بينهما من مفاهيم واستجابات، لمنح المشهد حالة (التبؤر) في كتابه هذا، ليس في وثائقية داعمة فقط، بل في المقاربات النقدية والفكرية الساندة-المحايثة للتاريخي والإبداعي.
لذا تكمن أهمية هذا الكتاب في كلّيته، ونظره الشامل الذي يموجز ويقرّب... وهذا حسبه!
