في هذا الكتاب مساهمات قدمها لفيف من الدارسين، الذين ترد مسهماتهم في هذا الكتاب في البحرين في الفترة من 14 إلى 17 مارس/آذار 1998م. وكانت مناسبة اللقاء انعقاد ملتقى "طرفة بن العبد" الذي انتظم على هامش معرض البحرين الدولي التاسع للكتاب. والمواضيع التي غطتها هذه المساهمات، وإن تقاطعت حول طرفة بن العبد، إلا أنها تباينت من حيث الأولويات التي تركز عليها، والاستنادات النظرية التي حكمت تقديمها، كما والمشارب المنهجية التي مورس النظر من خلالها، ومع ذلك، فإن نواظم معينة تتواتر بأشكال مختلفة مستمدة من المحاور التي توزعت عليها أعمال الملتقى، وهي: أولاً التراث النقدي المنجز حول طرفة منطلقاً لنظرة جديدة ثانياً شعرية طرفة وموقعها في فن الشعر العربي، ثالثاُ استدعاء طرفة في التجربة الشعرية العربية.
