تمثل السير الشعبية العربية نصاً ثقافياً منفتحاً على مختلف ما أنتجه الإنسان العربي في تاريخه في شتى السياقات الحضارية والثقافية وللذات العربية في مختلف بناها الذهنية والفكرية. وفي العصر الحديث حظيت السرديات الشعبية العربية بمركز الاهتمام النقدي، وبدأت الاشتغالات المنهجية الجادة تعتني بها إلى جانب وجود حركات نشطة نسبياً في مختلف أنحاء الدول العربية لتوثيق الذاكرة الشعبية ومنها المرويات السردية.
تحت عنوان "السرديات الشعبية العربية: التمثيلات الثقافية والتأويل" يقدم الدكتور ضياء الكعبي والدكتور معجب العدواني دراسة تتناول نوعان من الموروث الشعبي العربي هما الحكاية الشعبية والسيرة الشعبية، أرادا من خلالها كما يقولان: "أن نقارب السرديات الشعبية مقاربات ثقافية وتأويلية، ومن ثم فإن اشتغالاتنا تنصب في إطار السرديات الثقافية، واقتصرنا في هذه المقاربات على نوعين سرديين رئيسيين هما: الحكاية الشعبية والسيرة الشعبية؛ وكان سبب وقوفنا عند هذين النوعين أهميتها المركزية في السرديات الشبعية بصورة عامة. ولذلك تناولنا أبحاث هذا ما يأتي "جدلية الشعبي والنخبوي: التمثيلات النقدية والثقافية للسرديات الشعبية" و"أسئلة الحكاية الشعبية" و"الحكاية الشعبية في منطقة الجزيرة العربية والخليج العربي: مقاربة ثقافية تأويلية" و"الحكاية الشعبية في عُمان: بنيات ودلالات".
