يُشَكِّلُ الرحيلُ ظاهرةً مهمةً في حياة الإنسانيةِ عامةً، وفي حياةِ الإنسان العربي على وجه الخصوص، ويتضحُ ذلك جلياً فيما خلّفَهُ من آثارٍ تدلُّ على إستمرار حركة الرحيلِ من مكانٍ إلى آخرٍ بحثاً عن الماء والكلأِ، وهذا الرحيلُ الماديُّ يصاحبُهُ رحيلٌ نفسيٌّ تسعى من خلالِه الذاتُ الإنسانيّةُ خلفَ الآمالِ والطموحاتِ، كما ينتهي إلى رحيلٍ روحيِّ حينَ ترجعُ الروحُ إلى بارئها.
وللرِّحيلِ سواءً أكان مؤقتاً أم دائماً، آثارُهُ النفسيةِ التي لا يعيها أو يشعرُ بها إلاّ من عايشها، ولا سيما الإرتحالَ النفسي، حيث تسبح الذاتُ في أمانٍ، وأحلامٍ، لتحققَ ما تفقدُهُ في واقعها المعيش، أو ما تناملُهُ في الزمن القادم، ولهذا الرحيلِ خصوصيتُهُ حيثُ لا قيودَ تأسرُهُ ولا حدود تكبّلُه.
والفنُ القصصيُ يعبرُ عن آلام الإنسانِ، وآمالِهِ، وإنتظارِهِ ورحيلِهِ، ومن ثمّ فقد شكّلَ الرحيلُ ظاهرةً بارزةً في القصةِ القصيرةِ السّعودية الحديثةِ منذُ نشأتِهَا، إذ عالجت موضوعَ الرّحيلِ بأدواتها التقليدية، وقد تطوَر الرحيلُ في القصةِ القصيرةِ السعوديةِ بتطورِ هذه الأدواتِ، فكلّما إستجابَ بناؤُهَا الفني والمضموني لعواملِ التغيرِ، والتجديد تبعَتهُ ظاهرةُ الرحيلِ وبرزَت فيها هي الأخرى بملامحَ فنيّةٍ مستحدثةٍ تواكبُ التغيراتِ الفنيةِ، والعقديّةِ التي تستوعبُها القصّة القصيرةُ في المملكة العربية السعودية.
وتتضحُ ظاهرةُ الرِّحيلِ جليَّةً من خلالِ القصّةِ القصيرةِ السُّعوديّةِ، لأن القاصَّ يقومُ بتوظيفهَا على مستويات مختلفةٍ منها إستخدامُ المونولوج الدّاخلي، فيتغلغلُ القاصُّ داخلَ الشخصيّةِ القصصيّةِ، ليكشفَ صورةً لواقعها الباطني، وإحساساتِها، ومشاعرهِا، التي تختلجُ في جنباتها ذلك أن بعض الشخصيّاتِ القصصيةِ لا تستطيعُ البوحَ بما في داخلها فليجأُ الكاتبُ إلى مونولوج داخليِ، ليكشفَ عن مشاعرها الذّاتيّةِ، وأفكارها وعذاباتها وطموحاتها، والمونولوجُ يأتي دوماً جزءاً مكمّلاً للحدثِ العادي، ليرسمَ صورةً عامةً لنموذجِ الشخصيّةِ.
في هذا الكتاب شرعت المؤلفة على دراسة ظاهرة الرحيل في القصة القصيرة السعودية، وذلك في أربعة فصول توزعت وفق ما يلي: الفصل الأول: "ظاهرةُ الرحيل والتشكيلات اللغويَّة"، الفصل الثاني: "ظاهرة الرحيل وتشكيلُ الشخصيّة"، الفصل الثالث: "ظاهرةُ الرحيل وتشكيل الحدث"، الفصل الرابع: "ظاهرة الرحيل تشكيل الزمان والمكان".
