تزايدت في السنوات القليلة الماضية بدرجة كبيرة الموضوعات الرياضية التي يحتاجها العلميون والمهندسون والباحثون، وقد كان هذا متوقعا نظرا للدور المحورى الذى تلعبه الرياضيات في صياغة ونمذجة وحل المسائل التى تشتمل عليها العلوم والهندسة، وحيث إن المسائل أصبحت أكثر تعقيدا فقد بات من الطبيعي أن تزيد في العدد والتعقيد الطرق الرياضية التي تحتاج إليها في الحل. ويتعرض الكتاب إلى دراسة اشتقاق وتكامل الدوال الاتجاهية والتكامل الثنائي والثلاثي والتكامل على سطح والنظريات ذات الصلة بالإضافة إلى دراسة الإحداثيات المنحنية والممتدات والممتد المتري. كما احتوى الكتاب على بعض التحويلات وتطبيقاتها ذات الأهمية مثل تحويلات لابلاس وفورييه وهانكل. كما أضفنا عدة أبواب عن تكاملات ريمان وستلتز والدوال المقيسة وتكامل ليبج وعرضنا بأسلوب سلس النظريات والبراهين ذات الصلة دون تعقيدات كثيرة مع عدم الإخلال بالمستوى العلمي. وقد احتوى الكتاب على أمثلة محلولة توضيحية متنوعة لتأكيد وترسيخ المادة العلمية. كما ضم الكتاب مادة أكثر مما يمكن تغطيته في معظم المقررات. وقد تم هذا بالقصد لكي نجعل الكتاب أكثر مرونة ويعطي مرجعا اكثر فائدة ويكون حافزا لاهتمم اكبر بهذه الموضوعات.
