توارثت الأجيال الفنون الإبداعية جيلآ بعد جيل وقد حرص كل جيل على أن يطبع بصمته حسبما أملت عليه الظروف المعيشية فى تلك الآونه، ومع كل جيل تظهر جماعات المبدعين الذين ينقلون عن الوسط البيئى والأجتماعى والسياسى مبادئ فنهم ثم يجملونه ويضيفون إليه لمساتهم بما أتاهم الله من مواهب وملكات، ولذلك فأننا نلاحظ أن لكل جيل سمة مميزة تظهر فى الأشكال الزخرفية التى خلفها من ورائه فهناك الزخارف الفرعونيه والزخارف الإغريقية ثم القبطية فالإسلامية والعربية، وغيرها كثير، ويميل كل إنسان منا نحو لوم معين من تلك الفنون والزخارف، فنجد من تستهويه اللوحات والنماذج الزخرفية القديمة، وأخر ينجذب نحو النماذج الحديثة وهكذا، ومن ثم جاءت فكرة هذا الكتاب أو قل الموسوعة الزخرفيه، التى ضمت كمآ هائلآ من النماذج لمعظم الأجيال الفنية التى تواردت على مر العصور، وقد حرص مؤلف الكتاب على وضع النماذج بنظام معين يساعد فى فهمه واستيعاب كل ما فيه، الى جانب المنهج التعليمى الذى سلكه المؤلف ليساعد هواه تعلم دراسة فن الزخرفة وكذلك الرسامين فى الإلمام بالعديد من الأشكال التى يحتاجون إليها فى مشوار حياتهم، ويلجأون إليها فى العديد من المواقف الصعبة التى يتعرضون لها فى لوحاتهم ورسوماتهم ومخطوطاتهم، مستعينآ فى ذلك بالكثير من المراجع الأجنبية والعربية التى نقلت إلينا الفنون القديمة والحديثة، بالإضافة إلى دراساته المتعددة فى هذا المجال حرصآ منه على أن يغطى الموضوع من كافه جوانبه.
