في الحقيقة، فإن معظم فصول هذا الكتاب ومادته تعد نتاجا لعديد من الدراسات والبحوث التي قمنا بإجرائها طوال ست سنوات مضت، عقب حصولنا على الدكتوراه في العام 1994، وحتى بعيد حصولنا على درجة "أستاذ مساعد" في العام 1999. وقد عمدنا في هذه البحوث إلى التجديد في الدراسات الإخراجية والخروج بها من إسار النمطية البغيضة التي أدت إلى جمهودها والانطلاق بها إلى آفاق النشر الإلكتروني الأكثر رحابة.
ومنذ البداية... كانت الرؤية التي تحكمنا في إعداد هذه البحوث هي أن تعكس موضوعاتها وأفكارها ومشكلاتها البحثية الاتجاهات الحديثة في النشر الصحفي، سواء في المنطقة العربية أو العالم. وهكذا، ردنا مجالا جديداً بدراسة تعد الأولى من نوعها، تناولت نظام النشر المكتبي وتطبيقاته في الصحافة.
إن هذا الكتاب يعد تجسيداً لبعض الاتجاهات الحديثة في النشر الصحفي التي حرصنا على تضمينها الدراسات التي أعددناها. وتتمثل هذه الاتجاهات في: تطبيقات الحاسبات الرقمية في النشر الصحفي، الاتجاه نحو دراسات اللون كعنصر فاعل في الصحيفة العصرية، وأخيراً: أساليب تعامل الصحف المطبوعة مع مشكلات الورق كأحد ملوثات البيئة في وقت يزداد فيه الاهتمام بحماية البيئة من التلوث، سواء في التشريعات أو التطبيقات التي تعكس وعياً متزايداً بهذه القضية.
