يتكون هذا الكتاب من ثمانية فصول تغطي مفاصل رئيسية في عملية التصميم للشبكات الكهربائية في المشاريع الكبرى حسب الكوادر والمواصفات والقياسيات الدولية المعتمدة في هذا المجال، وخاصة ما صدر عن اللجنة الكهروتقنية الدولية IEC.
يستعرض الفصل الأول الأحمال الكهربائية، طبيعتها وكيفية تقديرها، لقد حاولنا، قدر المستطاع تصنيف هذه الأحمال حسب نوعها واستخداماتها ليسهل تقديرها وحسابها، مع إدراكنا مسبقاً أن الخبرة العملية تلعب دوراً كبيراً في هذا المجال. أما الفصل الثاني فقد خصص لعملية اختيار الأسلاك والكوابل الكهربائية، حيث تعتمد عملية الاختيار على طريقة تمديد هذه الكوابل. وقد استعرضنا طريقة استخدام جداول السعة الإمبيرية لشركة ABB وشركة Group Schneider وأخيراً الجداول الخاصة باللجنة الكهروتقنية الدولية. وقد شرحنا في الفصل الثالث كيفية حساب فقد وهبوط الفولتية وبينا الفرق بينهما، ثم استعرضنا حساب فقد الفولتية في الدارات الحلقية. وخصص الفصل الرابع لأحد المواضيع المهمة عند تصميم شبكات التمديدات الكهربائية ألا وهو موضوع التأريض، والذي يجد المهندس نفسه أمام معضلات تسبب له إشكاليات عديدة. لذلك جاء هذا الفصل موسعاً في محتواه وأردناه تفصيلياً ليغطي الموضوع بشمولية وبعمق. وأفردنا فصلاً خاصاً ليغطي موضوع الحماية في نظام التمديدات الكهربائية والذي يتم عن طريق الاختيار الصحيح لقواطع الدارة، وكذلك شرحنا أنواع الحماية المختلفة ومميزات قواطع الدارة وطريقة اختيارها لتؤدي وظيفة حماية الأشخاص والممتلكات عند تصميم شبكة التمديدات الكهربائية.
