يمثل علم بيولوجيا اللافقاريات Biology of Invertebrates أحد المساقات المهمة في التدريس الجامعي في كليات العلوم تخصص العلوم الحياتية التطبيقية في الجامعات العالمية قاطبة. يهتم هذا الحقل من المعرفة العلمية والأكاديمية بدراسة التنوع الحيوي Biodiversity في عالم الحيوانات اللافقارية Invertebrate Animals والبيئة Enviornment التي تعيش فيها وتاريخ التطور العضوي Evolution والمظاهر السلوكية Behaviour التي تضمن البقاء لهذه الأحياء على كوكب الأرض.
يمثل كتاب علم بيولوجيا اللافقاريات محاولة علمية بارعة مطلع القرن الجديد لتوفير مرجع علمي رصين في المكتبة العلمية العربية الحديثة للطلبة في عموم العالم العربي. وقد أعد الكتاب في ضوء الخبرة العلمية الغزيرة المتراكمة لدى العلماء في جامعات العالم المتقدمة في إعداد مناهج الدراسات البيولوجية Biological Curriculum بهدف تشجيع الطالب على اكتساب المعرفة الإبداعية. وكان ضمن الأهداف العلمية وراء إعداد وكتابة هذا المرجع العلمي الجديد هو لإثارة المتعة الشخصية لدى الطالب الجامعي حيث أن التعلم Learning يكون أسهل عندما يشعر الإنسان بتذوق وإدراك المفاهيم العلمية. وإن دراسة عالم الحيوانات اللافقارية هي رحلة ممتعة في عالم البيولوجيا والسلوك والتطور الذي كان خلاصة ملايين السنين تمخض عن ظهور الأحياء وبقائها على كوكب الأرض.
وإذا ما عدنا الفصول هذا الكتاب نجد أنها قد تناولت العديد من الموضوعات تشمل بيولوجية الأوالي Protozoa التي تعد مقدمة عالم الحيوانات اللافقارية والإسفنجيات Sponges وجوفية المعي Cnidaria والديوان المسطحة Flatworms والديوان الخيطية Nematods والنواعم Molluscs والديدان الحلقية Annelids والمفصليات Arthropods (العناكب Spiders، القشريات Crustaceans، الحشرات Insects) وشوكية الجلد Echinoderms.
وليأتي الكتاب كاملاً من حيث الدراسات فقد تم الاعتماد عند إعداده على أهم المراجع العلمية العالمية الحديثة سواء في شرح المادة العلمية أو توثيق المعطيات بالصور التوضيحية. كما وتمت الإشارة إلى كافة المراجع الحديثة التي تم الاستفادة منها في تأليف هذا لكتاب تحقيقاً لشروط الأمانة العلمية مما يضع الكتاب في مكانة رفيعة المستوى في المكتبة العربية الجامعية.
