هذا الكتاب محاولة متواضعة للتعريف أهم خاصية في العقل البشري.. الإبداع، في مجال من أهم مجالات الحضارة الإنسانية.. الفن. و"الإبداع في الفن" يتألف من عشرة فصول، يتناول الفصل الأول منها أهم نظريات الإبداع الفني.
يتناول الفصل الثاني علاقة الشخصية بالإبداع في الفن، ويحاول الفصل الثالث أن يجيب عن سؤال شغل اهتمام الفلاسفة وعلماء النفس والفنانين..، هو: حين يبدع الفنان عملاً فنياً؛ فهل يأتي هذا النتاج الفني في لحظة.. لحظة الإلهام أو التجلي، أم أن ذلك يستغرق زمناً هو غير اللحظة؟ ويستعرض الفصل الرابع أهم حركتين شغلتا المعنيين في ميداني علم النفس والفن.. الفرويدية.. والسوريالية، والعلاقة التي كانت قائمة بينهما. أما الفصل الخامس فيتناول "هاملت شكسبير" كحالة إبداعية.
وحاول المؤلف في الفصل السادس تحليل حالة إبداعية من الفن التشكيلي، وقد كرس الفصل السابع لتحليل الرسوم وعلاقتها بخصائص الشخصية. ولقد ناقش في الفصل الثامن الموضوع الإنساني الأزلي.. الحب وبحثنا في سايكولوجيته. ولأن الإنسان، والفنان بشكل خاص، يتعامل مع اللغة لذلك يعرّف المؤلف الفصل التاسع وتحدث عن سايكولوجيتها. أما الفصل العاشر والأخير فقد تضمن مفاهيم أساسية عامة في سايكولوجية الشخصية يحتاج الى معرفتها كل من يعمل في ميدان الدراما.
