حسان علي حلاق (1946 - ) هو كاتب وأكاديمي لبناني وُلد ببيروت عام 1946 بمنطقة الطريق الجديدة، حصل على دبلوم عال في الدراسات الإسلامية ثم ماجستير في التاريخ عام 1977، وبعدها حصل على الدكتوراه من جامعة الإسكندرية عام 1981، ألّف حلاق عدة مؤلفات وقد ترجم عديد منها إلى الألمانية والإنجليزية. وهو عضو في اتحاد الكتاب اللبنانيين. وحائز على جائزة جامعة الإسكندرية التقديرية عام 2007. متزوج وله ولدان وثلاث بنات.

ألّف حلاق أكثر من خمسين مؤلفاً في مواضيع تاريخية وإسلامية، ومن أشهرها:

يعتبر كتاب "الأرشيف والوثائق والمخطوطات" في مكتبات ومراكز لبنان والعالم العربي والعالم، أول كتاب من نوعه في لبنان والعالم العربي، فقد حرص المؤرخ الدكتور حسان حلاق على أن يُضمن كتابه أكبر عدد ممكن من نماذج الوثائق والمستندات والمخطوطات التاريخية الموزعة في وزارات الخارجية وفي مكتبات ومراكز الأرشيف المختلفة والجامعات القائمة في لبنان والعالم العربي والعالم. ومن بين هذه الوثائق التاريخية على سبيل المثال لا الحصر: الوثائق العثمانية سواء في استانبول أو في الولايات العثمانية، الوثائق البريطانية، الوثائق الفرنسية، الوثائق الألمانية، الوثائق الأميركية، فضلاً عن الوثائق العثمانية اللبنانية والعربية ووثائق وسجلات المحاكم الشرعية، ووثائق وسجلات الأديرة والكنائس والمطرانيات والبطريركيات، والوزارات والإدارات، والمكتبات العامة والخاصة، ومكتبات الجامعات والبلديات، ووثائق ومراسلات الزعماء اللبنانيين والعرب والأجانب.
هذا وقد حرص المؤلف على إعطاء نماذج حول هذه الوثائق والمستندات والمخطوطات التاريخية وأهميتها وكيفية استثمارها في كتابة البحوث والدراسات التاريخية، كما ألحق بالكتاب مجموعة كبرى من الوثائق والمراسلات الدبلوماسية المتنوعة للدلالة على أهميتها التاريخية والعلمية والأكاديمية.
وبكلمة أخرى فإن هذا الكتاب يعتبر فعلاً أول كتاب من نوعه في لبنان والعالم العربي، لذا فهو يمثل أهمية كبرى بالنسبة لكل مؤرخ وباحث سياسي، ولكل مركز ومكتبة، ولكل كلية أو جامعة.
