حصلت ماليزيا على إستقلالها عام 1957, وهى دولة متعددة الأعراق و الديانات, وإن كان الإسلام هو الدين الرسمى. ويمثل سكانها الأصليون- الملايويون- حوالى 58% من السكان, ويمثل الصينيون حوالى 31%, والباقى هنود وعرقيات أخرى, خاضت ماليزيا تجربة إسلامية فى عالم المال والإقتصاد, تتبع المبادئ الرئيسية الإسلامية, بالتوازى مع النظام العالمى للإقتصاد والتمويل.
نجحت ماليزيا فى النهوض, خاصة فى الثلاثين عاماً الماضية؛ حيث إستطاعت تحقيق معدلات نمو بلغت 7% إلى 8% لبضع سنوات متتالية, وهى من أعلى معدلات النمو فى العالم, كما إستطاعت تخفيض نسبة كل من الفقر والأمية إلى أقل من 10%, وجاوز متوسط دخل الفرد عشرة ألاف دولار فى العام, وإحتلت الترتيب الثامن عشر والسابع عشر فى قائمة أكثر الدول تصديراً وإستيراداً فى العالم, وإنعدمت البطالة إلى الحد الذى تستورد معه العمالة من الخارج, وخاصة من إندونيسيا وبنجلاديش وغيرهما من دول شرق اسيا.. وتتمتع بنظام رعاية صحية وإسكان متميز, فلا يشكو أحد من عدم توافر العلاج أو السكن, ونجحت كذلك فى مشروعها القومى لتصبح مركزاً عالمياً لجذب الأموال التى تريد إتباع الشرع الإسلامى فى التمويل والإقتصاد, والذى يتزايد إقبال البنوك والمؤسسات المالية والإقتصادية العالمية عليه, خصوصاً بعد الأزمات التى أصابت أمريكا وأوروبا الغربية, حتى قال جرينسبان رئيس الإحتياطى الفيدرالى الأمريكى السابق إنه يشاهد أسس الصرح المالى تنهار, وتساءل كل من رولاند لاكسين (رئيس تحرير صحيفة "لوجورنال دى فينانس" فى 25/9/2008), وبوفيس فينست (رئيس تحرير مجلة "تشالنجر" فى 11/9/2008): هل حان الوقت لقراءة مبادئ الشريعة الإسلامية ودراسة الإستفادة منها فى عالم المال والإقتصاد؟ بل قال لاكسين: هل يمكن إعتماد مبادئ الشريعة الإسلامية فى وول ستريت؟
وعندما ضربت الأزمة المالية الإقتصادية شرق أسيا فى عا 1998, رفضت ماليزيا روشتة البنك الدولى, وقامت بعملية إصلاح شبه مضادة لما إقترحه البنك, فكانت أول الدول خروجاً وشفاءً من الأزمة.
هذا الكتاب يشرح التجربة الماليزية- بما فيها من نجاحات وإخفاقات, وكيف تم تحويل الإخفاق إلى نجاح- لم يهمه الأمر, ولمن لا يصمم على إتباع النظام الرأسمالى الأمريكى اليمينى, والذى لا تخفى أخطاره وتداعياته على أحد.
