يستعرض هذا الكتاب تجربة الإسلاميين الجدد الأتراك فى الحكم، فى إطار خصوصية تركيا كدولة علمانية تهيمن عليها الأبوية الأتاتوركية البطريركية منذ تأسيس الجمهورية قبل أكثر من ثمانين عاماً، ويتناول الكتاب مقدمات وأسباب وصول حزب العدالة والتنمية- الوعاء السياسي لهؤلاء الإسلاميين- للسطة فى عام 2002م، وكيف كان ذلك بمثابة ثورة صامتة أو بيضاء ضد النخبة العلمانية التقليدية، كما يتطرق الكتاب إلى افكار ومبادئ الحزب، وكيف أن تشكيله كان تعبيراً عن حل وسط تارخي للصراع المزمن فى تركيا بين ما يمكن تسميته بالعلمانية المتطرفة، والتيار الإسلامي التقليدي بزعامة رئيس الوزراء الأسبق نجم الدين إربكان، كما يمثل الحزب حركياً وأيديولوجياً تجربة جديدة في العالم الإسلامي بأكمله.
ويتطرق الكتاب للإصلاحات الكاسحة التي أجرها حزب العدالة والتنمية في البلاد في إطار سعيه لانضمامها للاتحاد الأوروبي، حيث نالت تركيا في عهده وضع الدولة المرشحة لعضوية الاتحاد في تطور تاريخي غير مسبوق، كما يدلف الكتاب إلي المشكلات التي واجهها الحزب في السلطة، بما في ذلك الصراع مع الجيش والمسألة الكردية المعقدة، فضلاً عن التحسن الهائل الذي طرأ علي الاقتصاد التركي، والعلاقات مع الولايات المتحدة والعالم العربي، التي تجلت فيها مقاربات وديناميكيات جديدة. ويعرض الكتاب لشخصية رجب طيب أردوغان الإسلاميين الجدد ودروه في الحزب والحكومة.
