كان رياض جبر، سائق السرفيس صباحاً والمطرب المشهور ليلاً يترك هاتفهُ يرن وهو يغني، خوفاً من أن يخسر زبوناً هنا أو هناك، لأن إسرائيل هدمت بيته الذي بناه بدلاً من خُم الدجاج في حاكورة بيت أهله بالقدس، وبقي يدفع الغرامات والمخالفات الطائلة لبلدية الاحتلال عن الخيمة التي أصبح يسكنها فوق الأنقاض.
رنَّ هاتفه المحمول فاستأذن العريس حين رفع الهاتف ورأى الرقم المتصل ، أعطانا إشارته المعهودة ، فدخلنا في وصلة موسيقى " الحجالة " الصاخبة ، كانت أمهُ تحتضر في مستشفى "هداسا" الاسرائيلي المقام على أراضي قرية العيساوية الفلسطينية ، شمال شرق البلدة القديمة ، سحبني من بين العازفين في الفرقة ، وقال الدمعُ في عينيه : " تعال نشوف إمي " . لم يدخلنا حراسُ المستشفى الوافدين حديثاً الى إسرائيل ، بسبب تدابيرهم الأمنية ورغبتهم الجمة بإذلالنا ، وربما لإنكارهم الساذج لحقيقة أنهم من هاجر إلينا ولسنا نحن ، تراشقنا بعض الشتائم البذيئة ، فقاموا باستدعاء دورية شرطة لاعتقالنا ، وحين نزل أفرادها من السيارة مستنفرين ، دفعونا إلى الحائط وبدأوا بتفتيشنا . وبعدما " أكلنا إلي فيه النصيب" دخلنا المستشفى نجر القهر خلفنا ، وجدنا أم رياض تحتضر ، وقبل أن تودعَ الحياة بلحظاتٍ رفعها جبر بين ذراعيه ، وضمها الى صدره ، فظننتُ وأنا أقف مقابله أن الحنين قد اجتاحهُ ، وأراد أن يقبلها ويدعها قبل أن تختفي إلى الأبد ، لكنه نظر إلي وقال : بدنا نعلّم عليهم .... اسحب الشرشف من تحتها بسرعة وحطّه بالكيس إللي وراك مش راح ينتبهوا إذا ماتت على تخت بلا شرشف ! ففعلتُ ... وبالفعل، لم ينتبه أحد...
