الحديث عن مكة المكرمة حديث عن أطهر بقاع الأرض وأحبها الى الله, ففي رحابها بيت الله الحرام قبلة المسلمين ومهوى أفئدتهم. وإذا كان من الضروري معرفة أماكن المشاعر المقدسة في رحابها الطاهرة, فإن من المهم أيضاً معرفة كل ما يتصل بها ويفضي إليها من طرق وأزقة وسبل وشعاب تمثل أجزاء من قلب الوادي الذي ذكره ربنا عز وجل بقوله على لسان سيدنا إبراهيم: (ربنا إني أسكنت من ذريتي بوادٍ غير ذي زرع عند بيتك المحرم). كما يحتوي الكتاب على ذكر السكنى بمكة, والتعريف بذرية الساكن فيها, وبهذا فإن ذكر السكن والسكنى بها قد بدأ بهما القرآن الكريم على لسان أبينا إبراهيم الخليل عليه وعلى نبينا أفضل الصلاة والتسليم. ولهذا فمن الواجب على الكتّاب المسلمين أن يتناولوا مكة المكرمة عامة, وحاراتها خاصة, بالبحث والدراسة أصولها, أسمائها, سكانها, وكل ما ضمت من آثار دينية وتاريخية واجتماعية وغيرها, لاسيما ما كان له علاقة بشعيرة الحج, ليعرف الحجاج أماكن نزولهم وسكناهم ومداخلهم ومخارجهم, ومعرفة طبقات سكان البلد الحرام من علماء وكرماء ومطوفين ورجال سياسة واقتصاد وغيرهم.
