يمثل تعليم وتعلم المفردات اللغوية بعداً مهماً من أبعاد تعلم اللغة، فالمفردات اللغوية هي اللبنة الأساسية التي يوظفها مستخدم اللغة للتواصل مع الآخرين سواء أكان هذا التواصل شفهياً أم كتابياً.

يتضمن الكتاب الحالة خمسة فصول، دار الفصل الأول حول طبيعة المفردات اللغوية. أما عن الفصل الثاني فقد تضمن: صوت الكلمة وإجراءات تدريسه، وتناول الفصل الثالث: الوعي الصوتي وإجراءات تدريسه، وتناول الفصل الرابع تعرف الكلمات وإجراءات تدريسها، وتضمن الفصل الخامس والأخير: إستراتيجيات تعليم وتعلم المفردات، واشتمل الفصل على مستويات معرفة الكلمة، واستراتيجيات تنمية المفردات اللغوية.
