جاءت فكرة هذا الكتاب بعد أن مررت بخبرتين على قدر كبير من الأهمية، الخبرة الأولى تمثلت بوصولي إلى مرحلة الإشباع إلى حد ما يتعلق بمقياس هيرمان وأنماط التفكير من خلال دراستي وإشرافي على أربع مسائل ماجستير تناولت أنماط التفكير وفقاً لنظريَّة السيطرة الدماغيَّة لهيرمان، ولنظريَّة حكومة الذات العقليَّة لستيرنبيرغ في تخصص علم النفس التربويّ وبعد قيامي بثلاث دراسات عمليَّة بحثت في أنماط التفكير وعلاقته بمتغيرات متعددة بينما تمثلت الخبرة الثانية بإستعمالي المتكرر لجهاز (Global Position System) (GPS)، الذي يبدو واضحاً للعيان مدى إنتشاره وشيوع إستخدامه لدى الكثيرين في الآونة الآخيرة، إذ يساعد هذا الجهاز مستخدميه على الوصول لوجهتهم بأقصر الطرق وأسرعها دون الدخول في تشعيبات مضللة وهادرة للوقت.
وقد جاء هذا الكتاب بخمسة فصول؛ حيث تناول الفصل الأول عرضاً مبسطاً ومميزاً عن التفكير والدماغ وأساليب التفكير مدعماً ذلك بالأنشطة والمواقف الحياتيَّة، وجاء الفصل الثاني ليتناول تصنيف أنماط (أساليب) التفكير، وجاء الفصل الثالث موسوماً بمقياس هيرمان لأنماط (أساليب) التفكير، وجاء الفصل الرابع معنوناً بالدراسات التي استخدمت نظريَّة السيطرة الدماغيَّة لهيرمان سواء أكانت عربيَّة أم أجنبيَّة، في ما جاء الفصل الخامس موسوماً بإجابات التمارين والمواقف والأنشطة الواردة في متن الكتاب.
