تفتقر المكتبة العربية إلى الكتب التي تهتم بالهوايات الفنية وأساليب شغل وقت الفراغ وخاصة المصورة منها والموضحة بخطوات العمل، والتطريز والأشغال اليدوية من أكثر هذه المجالات إهمالاً، فيما نرى أن هذا الفرع من فروع الفن قد عولج بصورة كبيرة في الكتب الناطق بلغات العالم المختلفة، بل إن هناك إصدارات شهرية قد تكون شاملة، وقد تتخصص في فرع واحد فقط من فنون التطريز والأشغال اليدوية، حيث أن التعلم بالنظر وتتبع خطوات العمل بالصور بالنسبة لغير القارئات باللغات الأجنبية يعتبر أمراً بالغ الصعوبة، شديد التعقيد، لا تلبث المتعلقة أن تتركه لضجرها أو لما قد يصعب عليها فهمه وحلّ رموزه، لذا أقدم كتابي هذا إلى بناتي معلمات ومتعلمات وربات بيوت وفتيات محاولة متواضعة لسد ثغرة من هوة النقص في المكتبة العربية في هذا المجال، وكلّي أمل في أن أكون قد وفقت بعرضه بسلاسة ويسر وأن أكون قد عرضت أكبر قدر من هذه المادة التي أعتبرها بحراً ليس له قرار.
