ولتدريس العلوم دور فعال في التربية العلمية للمواطن، وتتزايد أهمية هذا الدور في عصرنا الحالي الذي أصبحت فيه المعرفة العلمية والتفكير والإتجاهات العلمية من النواتج التعليمية التي يجب تكوينها وتنميتها ليس فقط لدى التلاميذ الذين يتجهون إلى الدراسة المتخصصة في فروع العلوم المختلفة، وإنما بالنسبة للتلاميذ في جميع المراحل المدرسية.
إن إختيار الطريقة المناسبة لتدريس المحتوى لها أثر كبير في تحقيق أهداف المادة وتختلف الطرق بإختلاف المواضيع والمواد وبيئة التدريس، حيث إن طريقة التدريس ليست سوى مجموعة خطوات يتبعها المعلم لتحقيق أهداف معينة، وهناك طرائق متعددة ومتنوعة في هذا المجال ولا بد من إختيار الطرق الأكثر فاعلية ونجاعة في تفعيل دور الطلبة، وقد عرض المؤلف في متن الكتاب أهم الطرق التي يمكن أن تستخدم في تدريس مادة العلوم.
