في كتاب "الفن الإسلامي"، تقف هذه القراءة التأملية، كما يصفها المؤلف، أمام الفن الإسلامي، وقفة جديدة ومغايرة، في اقترابها، وفي دوافعها ومراميها. والمثير في هذا الكتاب، هو منطق المسار التأملي الذي يمضي فيه، في تناوله فلسفة الفن الإسلامي وخصائصه الجمالية، إنه منطق توحيدي، فالمؤلف يوحد مع الأسطر الأولى بين مختلف أنواع الفن الإسلامي كونها تجليات لنوع واحد أو فن واحد.
فهو يجمع بين العمارة والخط، والزخرفة والرسم، الخزف والمعدن، الزجاج والنسيج، السجاد والخشب، قارئاً هذه الأنواع كأنواع تلتقي أو تتوحد في المنطق الفني أو في المنهج الجمالي نفسه. ولا يقف هذا المنطق عند هذه الحدود، بل هو يروح يوحد مرة جديدة بين العصور السياسية، وفي الوقت الذي يقرأ فيه بعض العلامات المميزة بين عصر وعصر كتراكم للخبرات أو كحلول واحتمالات جديدة للمبدأ الأم أو للمبدأ الجوهر، يؤكد أن هذه العلامات المميزة لا تشكل انعطافات فنية جوهرية تطول الأسس الجمالية أو الفلسفية، بقدر ما تؤكد تماسك الرؤيا الشاملة وغناها.
هكذا يسمى المؤلف الفن الإسلامي بالفن التوحيدي ويتأمله كفن واحد متعدد التجليات. تتوقف هذه القراءة مراراً عند العلاقة بين الفن الإسلامي والدين الإسلامي، وفي الوقت الذي ينفي فيه المؤلف صفة التبشير عن الفن الإسلامي يرى في هذه العلاقة الخاصة واحدة من الصفات المميزة التي أفردت هذا الفن وخصصته.
والمثير والجديد أيضاً في هذا الكتاب، أن إخراجه للكتاب فني، يمضي في منهج وأسلوب يلتقي ومنهج وأسلوب القراءة، فلقد تمّ تصميمه واختيار صوره بحيث تشكل رؤية شاملة تسهل قراءتها كنص واحد. يعود فيؤكد الوحدة التي تجمع بين أنواع الفن الإسلامي والوحدة التي تتأكد بين عصر وعصر، فإذا اجتمع الخط والعمارة والزخرفة والرسم في فصل واحد، وبدا ذلك إخراجاً جديداً، فإنما يجتمع المنطق الإبداعي والجماعي في النظم والمبادئ الأساسية التي يلتقي فيها فن العمارة وفن الخط وفن الزخرفة وفن الرسم.
فالقصد الخفي هو دائماً تقديم هذا الفن وتأمله كفن قائم بذاته توحده رؤيا شاملة تقرأ الإنسان والوجود قراءات في المطلق.
